Deposition of Witness No. 01 for Prosecution.
I on solemn affirmation depose as under :
My Name : Shravni Sachin Lane
Age : 30 years Occupation : Nil
R/o. : Room No. 06, Chawl No. 34, Ganesh Galli, Indira Nagar,
Marol Pipeline, Mumbai.
Exam.-in-chief by APP Mr. K. S. Jamdhade for the State:-
1. Accused no. 1 is my mother-in-law and accused no. 2 is my
brother-in-law. I was married to Sachin Gopal Lane on 04/01/2013 at
Vishal Hall, Virar as per the rites and rituals of Hindu community. Ours
was an arrange marriage. My parents gave me Mangalsutra, Necklace,
Chain, Finger Ring and Zumkas as bridal gifts in marriage.
2. After marriage I went to co-habit with my husband at my
in-law’s place at Dwarkamai sankul society, Kargil Nagar, Manvelpada,
Virar, Taluka-Vasai, District-Palghar. Accused no. 2 was also residing
with us. After some days accused no. 2 and his wife shifted to a separate
residence. But, they used to visit my in-laws place.
3. My husband Sachin Gopal Lane was sane at the time of
marriage. He behaved well with me for two months after marriage.
After two months he started behaving weirdly. He was also obtaining
some treatment. Accused no. 1 asked me to bring rupees one lakh for
treatment of my husband else she will not allow me to reside at my
matrimonial house. I informed accused no. 1 that, my parents cannot
pay the said amount, thus accused no. 1 and 2 abused me, assaulted me
and drove me out of the house.

4. During my pregnancy, my husband was not keeping well.
Accused no. 1 asked me to go to my maternal home for residing there.
The accused abused and assaulted me that time as well. After some days
I gave birth to a girl child. We informed the accused about the birth of
my daughter but they did not visit us. During the said period I did not
had any information about my husband. I do not know the whereabouts
of my husband since then. I have lodged the missing complaint of my
husband at Virar.
5. I went to my in-law’s place two months after the birth of
my daughter, but accused no. 1 told me that she will not let me stay
unless I bring rupees one lakh. Then I returned to my maternal home.
6. I again went to my in-law’s place in the year 2016 with my
daughter. Accused no. 1 and 2 abused and assaulted me and drove me
out of the house. I informed about this to my brother. My brother came
and demanded an explanation from accused no. 2. Accused No. 2
abused and assaulted my brother as well. I returned to my maternal
home. I lodged report against the accused at Sahar Police Station. The
F.I.R. & printed F.I.R. are now shown to me. They bear my signature.
Their contents are true and correct. They are marked as Exh- 11 and
Exh- 12. I can identify the accused. Accused no. 1 is absent, accused
no. 2 is present before Court today.
Examination-in-chief is completed
Cross-examination by Learned Counsel Mrs. Sushma Sohani for
accused:-
7. Police recorded my report as per my assertion. My
attention is not drawn to portion mark ‘A’ appearing in my report. I
say that, the contents of the said portion mark ‘A’ are incorrect as

my husband treated me well for two months after marriage. My
attention is now drawn to Portion mark ‘B’ appearing in my report.
I state that contents of portion mark ‘B’ are incorrect. I again say
that accused no. 2 was residing with us at the time of my
marriage. It is not true to say that, accused no. 2 was never
residing with us. It is not true to say that accused no. 2 never
subjected me to cruelty in any form. It is not true to say that
accused no. 1 resided with us only for two months and thereafter
she went to reside with accused no. 2.
8. It is not true to say that while I was in seventh month
of my pregnancy, my brother took me to my maternal home as per
prevalent custom for delivery. It is not true to say that while
leaving for my maternal home I took all my jewelry with me. I am
not aware of the health condition of my husband as the same was
concealed from me by my in-laws before my marriage.
9. It is true to say that after birth of my girl child, my
husband visited us in the hospital on 20/11/2013. It is not true to
say that after two months accused no. 2 informed me that my
husband was missing. I do not remember the date of lodging of
missing complaint.
10. It is not true to say that, when I visited my in-laws
place after two months of my delivery, the accused allowed me to
stay at my in-law’s place. It is not true to say that accused did not
abused and assault me that time. It is not true to say that I left my
matrimonial home when the health of my husband started
deteriorating. It is not true to say that accused no. 1 never

demanded rupees one lakh for the treatment of my husband. It is
not true to say that my husband was not suffering from any
disease hence I am unable to state anything about his ailment. It is
not true to say that I lodged false report against the accused and
today I am deposing false.
